Suki

She had me at "Hola"...

Suki, is my faithful companion and knitting partner. She's a five year old long haired chihuahua who weighs in at a whopping 4 lbs, but don't let her diminutive size fool you.  This furry little nugget is a feisty, alpha Latina on the inside who's not afraid to put 85 lb submissive pooches in their place!  It's hilarious to watch my sister's boxer/lab mix (pictured right) playing beta  to a dog that's almost 20 times smaller than she!
"This is the money shot!"
So you may be asking yourself, "What is a 6'2", 225 lb man doing with a 4 lb chihuahua?"  Well, historically I've always had larger breeds.  I wanted a dog that could accompany me on hikes and camping trips, as I used to be a pretty avid outdoorsman when I lived in the Southwest.  My late Aussie, Ariel, was just about the best hiking companion you could ever ask for.  After living in El Paso for a decade I was exposed more than ever before to chihuahuas and had developed this secret desire to own one.  I love their spirit!  They're bright, brave, head strong, loyal and have a wonderful sense of humor.  The breed has been described by many to be very "cat-like," and I have to say it's a pretty accurate comparison.  Ariel, was getting along in age and I wanted to adopt a puppy that would help ease the blow when the day came for her to pass over to the next realm.  I found a WONDERFUL breeder on the East side of El Paso and was smitten with Suki instantly.  It's nearly impossible to imagine anything cuter than a chi pup!  She was only the size of a large hamster when I brought her home and could easily fit into my shirt pocket!  Ariel tolerated her, Biscuit (the cat) adopted her and just as I had predicted, Suki provided me much comfort through a devastating loss.

She never fails to put a smile on my face and feeds my soul on a daily basis!  I'm pretty crazy about her! (Hey, you don't see her picking up my poop!)

  4. The pic of Ariel really touched my heart. I have four, 3 Yorkies and 1 Maltese (two of the Yorkies are rescues - and my vet knows I'm a softy). I am going to lose Fannie soon to cancer, and it breaks my heart to think about it. I feel your pain, Millard! But I can tell that Ariel had a great, pampered life, and Suki is living the dream as well. God bless our friends, no matter the leg count.
